As Nawa enters its 20th year, we continue with vision and commitment offering one of the most innovative educational opportunities available to non-traditional learners. The foundation for excellence has been established through hard work and vision. It is through hard work that Nawa Academy maintains its full academic accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and approval to accept international students by the U.S. Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services. It is through vision that Nawa Academy continues to meet the needs of today's youth through services such as our Learning Center and International Academy program.

About Nawa Academy
Nawa Academy practices the proverb, "I heard and I forgot. I saw and I remembered. I did and I understood." In support of this, John Dewey, a progressive educator of the late 19th century, once said that the term, experiential education is redundant. In order to learn, we need to experience what we are studying. Quoting Mr. Dewey, "Experiential education is education, pure and simple."

California Academy
The California Academy emphasizes experiential (hands-on) education in many aspects of its curriculum. Located on a 556 acre campus, the school sits on both sides of a river in a picturesque valley of meadows and pasture land, surrounded by mountains covered with oak and pine trees. There are still a few of the original structures that were once used for a stage stop on the Old Oregon Trail in the late 1800s. The campus has furnished cabin-style dormitory buildings, classrooms, a computer lab and science lab, a cafeteria, and a recreational building with an indoor climbing wall and skateboard half-pipe.

Snowboard USA (SUSA) is a great opportunity for students who wish to combine quality education with adventure and competitive and non-competitive snowboarding. As with our other academic programs, a hands-on approach to learning is the focus.

The is very different from the typical offerings of private and prep schools. Most schools have students on a fixed schedule with a structure that remains the same, day after day. They sit behind a desk and read, write or listen to lectures. For many students, this traditional approach works, and they flourish.
